What C-Suite Executives Do

C-suite positions in corporations are those that are reserved for the top executives. These executives have years of experience and strong decision-making skills. But do you know what each C-suite executive does? Let’s break it down by individual title.

CEO or Chief Executive Officer
Starting at the top, the CEO ranks highest in the C-suite executive chain of command. This individual is the one responsible for overseeing the entire organization. Specific duties may vary within different industries. Essentially, the CEO is tasked with making sure the organization succeeds on all levels each day. He or she is also the main person who reports to the board of directors.

COO or Chief Operating Officer
The COO oversees the day-to-day business operations of a company. In most businesses, this position is second in command, reporting directly to the CEO. The COO helps ensure the CEO’s goals are achieved through productive and effective work means and methods.

CFO or Chief Financial Officer
CFOs are senior personnel who are responsible for the financial health of a company. They continuously track and analyze the finances of the institution. They also have to study market trends and investment strategies to stay ahead of or equal to the competition. CFOs will recommend ways to improve the income and outflow of the company’s capital.

CMO or Chief Marketing Officer
When it comes to leading the marketing efforts of an organization, the CMO is the person heading up the effort. This executive generally leads a team that performs market research, customer satisfaction reviews, and brand imaging. A CMO and his or her team need to be social media savvy. This position requires working with researchers, product developers, sales staff, and public relations departments.

CIO or Chief Information Officer
Companies rely heavily on CIOs in today’s technology and internet-dependent society. This person oversees the Information Technology Department and all office computer systems to ensure the most efficient equipment, software, data management, and security systems are in place. CIOs are often in charge of making sure IT staff is continually trained to ensure the company remains up to date with ever changing technology advances.

Summary
Many C executives are well educated or have an impressive vitae and track record working for successful businesses. However, they can’t perform their jobs without the help of a productive team of employees. These positions depend on being surrounded by motivated and invested staff members.
